The Kensington Elevator

The Elevator may be the perfect desk accessory for frequent travelers who use a 15″ MacBook Pro. Mine sits on my desk just to the right of a 21″ external monitor and full sized Apple USB keyboard. I’ve tucked an external hard drive for backups and a small 8 port USB hub underneath the Elevator. When I get back to the office after a trip all the connections I need to convert my MBP to a desktop are right there. The Elevator saves desk space and raises the MBP up so that I can use my laptop display and the external monitor side by side. Highly recommended!

iHome

If you travel often on business you’ll find that some hotel chains that cater to business travelers have finally gotten a clue and made the electronics they put in their rooms much more 21st century friendly. While some of the technology is built-in and expensive I know that I appreciate having an alarm clock that lets me plug in my iPhone or iPod. I have that same capability at home using a great combo alarm clock radio with the iHome iH9 Alarm Clock Speaker System with Dock for iPod. It’s a great bed side accessory and a fantastic gift for an iPhone or iPod user.

MacSpeech

Dictation is a powerful tool. The problem with some dictation solutions is that unless you are sitting at your desk their not easy to use. MacSpeech is great for both in the office dictation and on the road use. I use my Plantronics Bluetooth Voyager Pro headset sync’ed to my MacBook Pro almost everyday. After “training” the MacSpeech software I found it’s fantastic at understanding what I’m saying. It’s great for quickly “writing” notes. If I’m going to be giving a presentation I’ll turn it on and talk through a dry run so that afterwards I can make sure I’m expressing all the right points and ideas. The price is usually less than $100 USD and follow the link below for a free Plantronics headset with software purchase. This is a great deal.
